It all started when I rescued Tracie from a wanna-be cowboy at a Single’s Bible Study. I saw that she was trying to politely extricate herself from the situation, so I made my move. Shortly thereafter, I asked her to go to the Braves playoff game so that if the date was a bust at least we’d have gotten to see a good baseball game but if it was a win, there were potential anniversary celebrations involving the Braves down the road! Ha! Well, the good news is that the Braves won and so did I, and we were married in 1997, and so, our adventure began!
Tracie taught in the Coweta County School System for ten years and then became an Education Consultant to Home school families for the last ten years. During that time, I primarily served as the Student Ministries Pastor at Crossroads Church in Newnan, Georgia. I completed my Masters of Divinity at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and am in the Thesis portion of my Doctor of Ministry degree at Denver Seminary.
We have two boys, Harrisen (2004) and Sawyer (2012). We were 39 years old when Harrisen was born, and we thought, “We’re still young, we got this! So what if I’ll look like his granddad when he graduates high school?!” Now it wasn’t until 2012 that Sawyer was born, so you can do the math, I’m sure, but that put us at 48 years old with a newborn! Now, we’re thinking—no, really we don’t think about it at all! But we do feel a bit like Abraham and Sarah who had Isaac at what was their mid-life – these boys have blessed us and are keeping us young!
But the parallel our lives have made with the story of Abraham and Sarah has seemed to go even further. God called them, in Genesis 12, to leave their country, their people and the their father’s inheritance, and we too felt a call to leave our home, friends, and ministry of over twenty years in order to plant a church.
After much prayer, and in listening to the voice of God and to the wisdom of advisors, we accepted the Lord’s challenge of doing a church re-plant of this church in Cartersville. We arrived here at The Stone Church in 2013 and since that time, we have been seeing God move in unexpected ways through challenging situations!
